Work, Learn & Grow Employment Program (WLG) 

The Work, Learn & Grow Employment Program (WLG) is a New York City Council funded initiative designed to build off of the experiences gained in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). WLG provides participants of the 2017 SYEP who are between the ages of 16 - 21 and currently in-school with career readiness training and paid employment opportunities for up to twenty five weeks from October to April. WLG career readiness training will focus such topics as career exploration, financial literacy, conflict resolution, résumé/cover letter development and opportunities to continue education and social growth.

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)

Through the generosity and sponsorship of the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, the Central Queens Y is now an SYEP provider for youth between the ages of 14-24. SYEP provides workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy and opportunities to continue educational and social growth. Participants have the opportunity to obtain a paid summer internship for up to six weeks through July and August.

Last year's summer internships took place at Government Agencies • Small Businesses • Hospitals • Summer Camps • Museums • Non-Profits • Farms • and many more!

Participants can apply for the CQY SYEP Program online at or through CQY beginning in Spring 2018.

Ladders for Leaders (L4L)

Ladders for Leaders provides paid professional internships to NYC youth between the ages of 16 and 22.  Applicants are evaluated based on academic performance, response to an essay question, and résumé quality.  Selected applicants will undertake 20-30 hours of pre-employment training designed to teach essential workplace readiness skills and professional etiquette.  Participants will then have the opportunity to interview for summer internships at a variety of companies.  Last summer's employer partners included Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Chase, and The Pandora Group, just to name a few.  Partnering employers make final selections on hiring for the six-week paid internship.

Talented individuals with demonstrated leadership experience who possess a genuine desire to gain professional experience should visit in Winter 2017 and complete the online application for NYC Ladders for Leaders with the Central Queens Y.
