Individual VolunteersVolunteers of all ages and backgrounds play a vital role at the Central Queens Y. Last year over 300 people participated in the various volunteer opportunities provided at the CQY. Some volunteers have been a part of the CQY family since their early childhood. Others are young professionals, college and high school students and parents who contribute valuable time and resources as tutors, instructors, lecturers, computer programmers, mentors, job coaches, event planners, graphic designers, and camp counselors as well as many other critical roles. These volunteers assist the CQY in delivering the highest quality of services. Opportunities are available on a long term or project basis.
All volunteers must participate in a brief training seminar.
Volunteer Positions
Just a few hours of your time each week can make a significant difference to a child struggling in school!
The Central Queens Y offers free tutoring to Forest Hills High School students. We are currently looking for community volunteers to work with high school students in the areas of Math and Science. Students will work on homework assignments and focus on the skills where they need extra reinforcements and practice. Students are able to work 1:1 with tutors or in small groups based on subject. Tutoring hours are open and students may drop in as needed. Sessions run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. To learn more about the program or to volunteer, please contact Carol Newberry at 718-268-5011 ext. 111 or cnewberry@cqy.org.
