The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 22 with summer employment and educational experiences that capitalize on their individual strengths, develop their skills and competencies, and connect them to positive adult role models.
SYEP provides six (6) weeks of entry-level work experience in a variety of jobs at community-based organizations, government agencies and private sector businesses, and Central Queens Y is proud to have been chosen to be among the agencies that facilitate this program, working with teens ages 14 and 15.
CQY has also been chosen to facilitate the NYC "Ladders for Leaders" program, a component of SYEP, which provides professional internships to NYC youth between the ages of 16–22. This competitive process differs from the traditional SYEP model in that it requires applicants to submit an application to one of several community based organizations serving the five boroughs. Applications are evaluated based on academic performance, response to an essay question, and a résumé.
Please Note: Selection into SYEP is based on a lottery, and submission of an application does not guarantee that you will be offered a job. Youth ages 16–22 must first complete the general application for their age group via Henry Street Settlement–Queens before they can choose CQY's "Ladders for Leaders" program.
